CSW69 Side Event

May 8, 2025

New York, Manhattan – March 20, 2025

As part of the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), the International Unit for the Strengthening and Promotion of Haitian Institutions (UNIRPIH), in collaboration with the organization Fanm Kore Fanm (AFKF), hosted a major side event on March 20, 2025, at the Salvation Army Auditorium in the heart of Manhattan, New York.

The event brought together official women’s delegations from Haiti, as well as Haitian diaspora representatives from various U.S. states. Together, they discussed issues related to gender equality, women’s resilience, and strategies for social transformation.

UNIRPIH Honors the Commitment of Women Activists

On this historic occasion, UNIRPIH awarded special distinctions to several women recognized for their outstanding work in advancing women’s rights. These women — from civil society, the legal sector, education, and community health — were celebrated for their leadership, determination, and contributions to women’s empowerment.

“Honoring the women who build and defend our society is also laying the foundation for a fairer and more equitable future for all,” stated a UNIRPIH representative.

A Collective Call for the Future of Haitian Women

The discussions also highlighted:

  • The specific challenges Haitian women face, both nationally and within the diaspora,

  • The role of international cooperation in promoting equity,

  • The urgent need to strengthen local institutions through a gender-sensitive lens.

Through this initiative, UNIRPIH reaffirmed its commitment to fostering synergy between women in Haiti and those in the diaspora, in a shared vision of sustainable development and social equity aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 on gender equality.
