UNIRPIH Recognizes Me. Delva’s Role in the Migration Crisis

January 6, 2022

Boston, Massachusetts — November 2021
In the midst of a massive wave of deportations of Haitians from Chile and Brazil—many of whom transited through Mexico before being turned back to Haiti by U.S. authorities—the International Unit for the Strengthening and Promotion of Haitian Institutions (UNIRPIH) actively engaged in discussions and strategies to support these vulnerable migrants.

A Strategic Meeting for the Future of Haitian Migrants

In this context, UNIRPIH held a working session with the Director of the National Migration Office (ONM), Me. Jean Négot Bonheur Delva, to discuss structural measures to better receive, guide, and integrate returning Haitian migrants.

This high-level meeting took place in Boston (Massachusetts), with several members of the Haitian diaspora also in attendance to express their solidarity.

Well-Deserved Recognition for Outstanding Commitment

As a token of appreciation for his leadership and dedication to defending the rights and dignity of Haitian migrants, UNIRPIH awarded an honorary plaque to Me. Bonheur Delva.

“It’s not only about managing a crisis, but about building a humane, sustainable, and dignified response,” noted a UNIRPIH representative during the award ceremony.

This symbolic gesture also aims to encourage collaborative efforts between national institutions and the Haitian diaspora to ensure better protection and reintegration of Haitian migrants.
