Post-Earthquake Solidarity in Baladère
On September 3, 2021, just weeks after the powerful earthquake that struck southwestern Haiti in August 2021, the UNIRPIH (International Unit for the Strengthening and Promotion of Haitian Institutions) mobilized a humanitarian delegation to the locality of Batadère—one of the hardest-hit and often overlooked areas.
A Swift and Compassionate Response to the Humanitarian Emergency
Under the coordination of the Mayor of Jean Rabel, joined by several other elected officials from the Northwest department and the UNIRPIH field team, the delegation delivered:
-
Essential food supplies (rice, beans, oil, drinking water, etc.),
-
Construction materials for temporary shelter,
-
And messages of solidarity and compassion for displaced families, many of whom had been sleeping under the open sky since the disaster.
A Gesture of National Brotherhood
This humanitarian action directly assisted dozens of families, helping to restore a minimum sense of stability and dignity after the trauma and losses they endured.
“Solidarity between regions is essential to rebuild the country. UNIRPIH stands with Haitians—wherever they are—when they are in need,” said a team member.
This mission reflects UNIRPIH’s commitment not only to physical reconstruction but also to strengthening Haiti’s human and institutional fabric in the face of crisis.
